Marc Jacobs’ Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter is the first liquid highlighter I’ve ever tried and I gotta say, I’m happy! At first, I was put off by the color, because I’m very fair and thought it wouldn’t match my skin tone. Not so! It melts into my skin and provides just the right amount of shine. A little bit goes a LONG way, which I love! That means I can even mix some with BB cream or sunscreen for an all over glow.
The formula is lightweight and feels hydrating when applied. It should, given that it’s inspired by Marc Jacob’s love of coconut water. It includes five forms of coconut:
-Coconut alkanes: Help with longer wear
-Coconut milk: Deeply hydrates
-Coconut water: Provides refreshing electrolytes
-Coconut polysaccharides: Help condition
-Coconut fragrance: Lightly scented
Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty. Is this product worth the $44? You’re getting 0.8oz/24mL. It’s more expensive compared to Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid Highlighter(1.7oz for $41) or NARS The Illuminator(1.1oz for $30). The packaging is lovely and well thought out. I prefer the pump over a squeeze tube anyday, and I found it easy to dispense small amounts by being only the slightest bit careful with it. The frosted glass is smooth and easy to grip in your hand as well.
Can we talk about the coconut scent for a second? It’s subtle and classy–just the right amount of tropical without screaming, “I applied a scented product today!” It’s like your little secret.
I have partially dry skin(hello LA living) and this truly felt like a little boost when smoothed over my cheeks. I’m considering dotting this on my shoulders too–just as soon as I get an off-shoulder top. So hot right now!
Let’s face it, I don’t have the makeup budget to be spending $44 on products whenever I feel like it. If you can, by all means, this product is a no-brainer! If you’re new to liquid highlighters, make a trip to your local beauty store and try some out. NARS & Becca both have other shades of liquid highlighters so that may be of interest to you! Plus, the Becca liquid highlighter comes in a travel version(see below) so you can easily pack it in your carry-on this summer.
For me, the lack of colors aren’t an issue. This shade looks natural and fresh on my skin. I love the packaging and the scent. Honestly, the timing is perfect too. It’s already heating up in SoCal and this is the time to think about summery, beachy things, like coconuts, and mai tais. Hello, summer, me and my Marc Jacobs Beauty Dew Drops are coming for you!
Thanks to Influenster and Marc Jacobs Beauty for the complimentary sample! I’m happy to receive testers such as this to try out and share with you from time to time. Of course, my opinions are my own.
